Nine of us set off from Alfriston on a beautiful sunny day for what was to be yet another stunning walk.
We visited several churches each offering a unique experience, the first of which, in all its glory, was Berwick church otherwise known as St Michael’s & All Angels. The Church is a sanctuary famous for its Bloomsbury paintings depicting the cycle of life, illustrated by artists including Duncan Grant along with Vanessa and Quentin Bell.

We continued on to visit several other churches on the route of Cuckmere Pilgrim Path, with our final visit to St Andrew’s, Alfriston, founded in the 1360s.
Apparently, it has become known as the ‘Cathedral of the South Downs’. The church boasts exceptional acoustics and regularly hosts music concerts and other events.

We all enjoyed beautiful scenery, coupled with fascinating churches capturing the spiritual Pilgrim theme. The journey was long for some of us, but filled with a sense of history and great privilege.
Thank you, Jon, for organising and for your research, which was, as ever, very amusing
